Raising funds for Suicide Awareness
My dear friend Abbie Bowles is the original master mind behind Lady Daze and continues to carry the torch, collaborating with fellow female surfers for causes that are dear to her heart. No single Lady Daze has been the same, but all have been centered around bring female surfers together, supporting each other, and cultivating a surf culture that cares for our oceans.
This was my very First Lady Daze. One of my very best friend's and soul sister, Addie Gibson, invited me to be an event photographer for an event she was hosting with Abby Bowles to raise money for suicide awareness in honor of her father, Tillis Gibson. The event raised $1,500 and was donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This is the event that moved me to reach out to Abby about hosting Lady Daze 2019 in St. Augustine, FL.
During the event, Addie had us reflect and write down the beautiful things that tether us to this earth. Then we were all given flowers for a paddle out to honor the lives lost to suicide and to celebrate the reasons that tether us. It was an honor to participate and photograph this event.
